The Brittle Bone Society is the only UK charity supporting people who have Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI): someone with OI can experience hundreds of fractures in their lifetime. They work closely with the main NHS Centres of Excellence located in Sheffield, Birmingham, London, Manchester, Bristol and Glasgow who continue to make medical breakthroughs and advances in the various orthopeadic surgical procedures which OI patients require. Part of their work is to fundraise for specialised wheelchairs, to give people their right to improved mobility and more independence. They also work to raise awareness about issues of isolation and support vital research programmes into better treatments and diagnosis of this rare condition. The Brittle Bone Society has been a member of the OIFE (Osteogenesis Imperfecta Federation Europe) for many years and also has a close association with the OIF (Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation) in the USA.
