BIB NUMBER
Bib numbers are given on the basis of running times declared by each participant at the time of registration. Since your bib number also displays your personal data, it must only be worn by you. Absolutely no swapping is allowed. Check for mistakes and report them immediately to staff in charge. Bib numbers must be affixed PROPERLY on the front of your race t-shirt and made visible. Do not alter in any way our sponsors’ names and logos displayed because we could not have organised this race without their help! If you have any problems with your race number or registration, please go to the “bib number pick-up” point at the Marathon Village.

FREE TRANSPORT ON THE RACE DAY
On the race day, wear your bib for free transport on buses, trams and metro! Free transport on the whole Metro network from 7:00am to 9:00am. If taken at  Circo Massimo, Colosseo (entrance Largo Agnesi) or Cavour stations, the service is for free from 10:30am to 4:30pm

LEFT LUGGAGE SERVICE
A left luggage card with your bib number will be included with your race packet and must be inserted in the transparent pocket of the Asics bag. Those intending to use the Left Luggage facilities, must use this rucksack; no other bags will be accepted. The Organization will not be held responsible for valuables left inside the bag.

CHIP TIMING SERVICE AND CHECKPOINTS
This service will be provided by Timing Data Service. The chip is attached to the bib and must be returned at the finish line. There will be several checkpoints (including the finish) with video cameras set up along the racecourse. Illegal actions revealed by the cameras will result in immediate disqualification. If you out, return the chip at a TDS-point (there is one next to each timing carpet). Alternatively, return it to “Maratona di Roma – Vale B. Bardanzellu, 65 – 00155 – Rome”. Athletes will be fined 20 Euro for any unreturned chip and sports clubs will be held responsible for delinquent payments.

MEDICAL ADVICE
Before the race, you must fill in your medical details on the back of your bib number. An exact description of conditions and/or allergies will help medical staff and yourself if problems should arise. First aid stations will be located next to every refreshment station and positioned every 5k, starting from kilometre 5 (5-10-15-20-25-30-35-40km), as well as at the finish.

STARTING AREA
ALL RUNNERS ARE OBLIGED TO ENTER FROM VIA DI SAN GREGORIO, PORTA CAPENA SIDE (TOWARDS THE ARCH OF CONSTANTINE).
You will find there left luggage lorries that will be parked on via di S. Gregorio - Foro Romano side. Each will display a number sequence (1 to 500, 501 to 1000 and so on) corresponding to bib numbers. Female numbers will be preceded by an F. Place your bag on the lorries marked with your bib number. You must collect it from the same lorry at the Marathon finish area (Via dei For Imperiali). All runners must enter from Via di San Gregorio. Toilet facilities will be available near the Arch of Constantine: please be considerate and use these facilities only. If you leave this area for any reason, you will be disqualified. Respect the surrounding area, as it is of great cultural and archaeological interest.

THE START
At 8:00am you will enter the cordoned area for transfer to the start. At this point, obligatory checks will take place to ensure proper functioning of the chip. Those participants refusing to comply to this check will not have their times revealed and, as a result, will automatically be disqualified. You will then be channelled into corrals corresponding to bib numbers and directed to via dei Fori Imperiali, from where you will depart. The following start areas have been established on the basis of the PB declared:

  Men Women
Top runners start area bib 1 to 50 bib F1 to F 30
Start Area "A" (Elite) bib 51 to 400 bib F31 to F100
Start Area "B" bib 401 to 4000 bib F101 to F500
Start Area "C" bib 4001 to 8000 bib F501 to F1500
Start Area "D" (and fitwalkers) bib 8001 to 15000 bib F1501 to F 3500

You may only enter the area to which you have been allocated, although runners who have been allocated to areas A and B can also start from areas C and D. This is to aid organisation and modulate the initial flow. Be a good sport and allow the faster and better trained runners to get off to a good start. You will still be given the ‘real time’ it took you to run the race.
The race begins at 9:00am.

You can park your car or group coach in piazza Celimontana near the Celio Military Hospital, in Via Claudia. Please park your cars in designated spaces only and do not obstruct the Marathon or traffic. On the marathon day, the entrance/exit on via dei Fori Imperiali of the Colosseo station will remain closed from 5:30am to 8:00pm.

UNOFFICIAL RUNNERS AND BICYCLES
Marathon runners who allow unregistered runners to run with them create organisational problems, breaking the rules of good sportsmanship, and could cause injury to other participants. Bicycles are strictly forbidden. Traffic wardens and race supervisors will be present to enforce this rule. The Marathon is a foot race and bicycles could place competitors at risk.

REFRESHMENT AND SPONGE STATIONS
Starting at kilometre 5, and every 5km thereafter (the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th, 35th and 40th km), you will find refreshment stations positioned to the left and to the right. Water, Gatorade and sugar solutions are also provided at the first three refreshment stops (5th, 10th and 15th km). Water, Gatorade, sugar solutions, fruit and solids are provided from the fourth refreshment stop on (from the 20th km). The first two tables at each refreshment stop are marked and reserved for Top Runners. Sponge stations are provided from 7.5 km and every 5 km thereafter, i.e. at 12.5, 17.5, 22.5, 27.5, 32.5 and 37.5 km.

TOILETS
These are located at the start/finish area and at all refreshment and sponge stations along the racecourse. Toilets will be open from 7:00am to 8:00pm.

WITHDRAWAL
If you wish to withdraw, please report to the nearest refreshment station and return the chip. Then you can go back to the start / finish area. A shuttle service to the start/finish area, provided by the Protezione Civile (Civil Protection Unit), will be available by first aid stations at kilometres 20, 25 and 30.

HALF MARATHON TIME LIMIT
Anyone who does not reach the half marathon mark by 12:30pm will be asked by the judges to stop.

FINISH LINE
At the 42k mark, you will be guided through arrival formalities. The time limit is 7:30 hours. Once you pass the finish line and your chip gives your final time, you can proceed through the arrival corral. Here, you will turn in your chip and immediately be awarded a medal to show that you have taken part, along with a wrap to protect you from the cold. After 10 metres, you will be given a goody bag containing Gatorade solution, water, fruits and other high-energy products. Medical staff will be on-hand immediately after the finish between the refreshment and left luggage collection area. You can then proceed to pick up your bag from the buses, showing your bib number. Various food supplements and tents for use as changing rooms will also be available to the right of Via dei Fori Imperiali. Please use the toilets provided and keep the surrounding area clean. At the exit of the arrival corral you will find the medal engraving tent, as well as merchandising booths and entertainment.
