Palazzo dei Congressi was originally designed for the 1942 Rome World’s Fair. It is one of the best examples of Rationalism in architecture in the XXth century.
Designer Adalberto Libera combined the principles of classic architecture with the pure and rational design of modern architecture.
In Palazzo dei Congressi there are frescoes and mosaics made by some of the most influent XXth century Italian artists, such as Achille Funi, Achille Canevari and Gino Severini, a leading member of the Futurist movement.
Palazzo dei Congressi is also home to other significant architectural works: the Aula Magna, (formerly known as Sala dei Congressi, recently restored by designer Paolo Portoghesi); the Terrazza, with hanging gardens and the Teatro, an open air theatre. The Terrazza and the Teatro were designed and built by Adalberto Libera for special events. |
