The Italia Marathon Club, with the technical collaboration of Atielle Roma srl, is organizing the XVI edition of the Maratona di Roma. The race, inserted in the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federation), AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Road Races), FIDAL (Athletics Italian Federation) and IPC (International Paralympic Committee) international calendars will be held on Sunday, March 21st 2010 at 9:00am, with the start at Via dei Fori Imperiali – Colosseo. The race is also valid as 3rd edition of RomaFitwalking.
REGISTRATION
According to the Sports Events' Rules and Regulations issued by FIDAL (Italian Athletics Federation), athletes willing to take part in the race must be 18 years of age on the day of the competition; no other restriction is imposed upon registration. Registration rules vary according to the runner’s status:
- ATHLETES RESIDENT OUTSIDE ITALY
a) Members of foreign Athletics’ Associations affiliated with either IAAF or IPC must provide a copy of their membership card upon registration.
b) Athletes who are neither resident in Italy nor members of any of the abovementioned associations must provide the health form provided by Maratona di Roma upon registration. You can either request our form at the Maratona di Roma Registration Department or download it, it's available in four languages (English, French, German and Spanish). Please fill in and sign your form and send it back to us by e-mail (as an attachment) or fax. The form must be filled in and signed according to legislation enforced in your country.
- ATHLETES RESIDENT IN ITALY
a) Members of FIDAL, CIP (and affiliated associations) and FCI (handbikers only) must provide a copy of their updated 2010 FIDAL, CIP of FCI membership card, unless their request for registration is signed by the Chairman of their Association, who bears full liability for it. Athletes are allowed to register for the competition before they actually renew their membership, but they must provide their renewed membership card (or a certification proving they actually have renewed their membership, printed on their Association headed paper and signed by their Chairman) as soon as possible). Your physician’s statement is not sufficient to register for the race, even if it certifies your eligibility for competitive sports.
b) Members of any other sports’ association having special conventions with FIDAL, CIP or FCI (handbikers only), competing in the Masters and Amateur categories. Your physician’s statement is not sufficient to register for the race, even if it certifies your eligibility for competitive sports
c) Athletes who are resident in Italy but are not members of any of the abovementioned associations must purchase membership in order to take part in the race, provided they have been issued a Physician Statement certifying their eligibility for Athletics or Running. These athletes may choose between different Membership Card options:
- One-year membership card (valid from 1/9/2009 until 31/8/2010) issued by any of the “Ente di Promozione Sportiva” having an agreement with “ASD Podisti Maratona di Roma” sports club. This Membership Card is valid for participation in all competition. The Membership costs € 7.00. The athlete must tick his/her chosen membership option on the registration form and send a copy of his/her Physician statement of eligibility. The Membership Card fee must be paid together with registration fee, specifying payment details. The athlete will receive his/her membership card together with his/her bib.
- One-day membership card is only valid for Maratona di Roma 2010. This membership card is issued by FIDAL. It costs € 5.00 (€ 2.00 for FIDAL Regional Committee and € 3.00 for compulsory insurance policy).
If he/she chooses the latter option, the athlete must download the form called “Cartellino di autorizzazione alla partecipazione alle gare su strada per i non tesserati” on the FIDAL website, fill it in and send it back together with the bank receipt stating the athlete has paid the € 5,00 fee (beneficiary: Atielle Roma srl). The Membership Card fee must be paid together with registration fee, specifying payment details. The FIDAL form (please make sure you fill in all fields), the payment receipt and the Physician Statement must be sent jointly.
REGISTRATION FEES
• € 35,00 – up to November, 23rd 2009
• € 42,00 – up to December, 21st 2009
• € 55,00 – up to January, 28th 2010
• € 65,00 – up to March, 8th 2010 (end of registration)
• € 30,00 - special promotional fee for Italian athletes registering for Maratona di Roma for the first time (no later than January, 28th 2010). The athletes who registered for previous editions but failed to request their bib at the desk are excluded from the promotion.
• € 100,00 – after March, 8th 2010 - upon specific written request and at the discretion of the Organization, anyway no later than March 15th 2010.
• Free entry for those athletes who have finished all 15 editions of Maratona di Roma.
• Free entry for disabled athletes (categories: Paraplegic, Tetraplegic, Blind, Amputee, Deaf) if received before February, 28th 2010.
The athletes disqualified twice from the 2007 edition, won't be eligible to register to the race.

IF YOU CHOOSE THE WIRE TRANSFER OR BANK ACCOUNT PAYMENT, PLEASE SPECIFY THE NAME/S OF THE REGISTERED ATHLETE/S IN THE PAYMENT DETAILS.
No payment made by Travel Cheque, Euro Cheque, international money order or draft check issued by any foreign bank will be accepted .
VALIDATION OF REGISTRATION:
1) ATHLETES RESIDENT OUTSIDE ITALY
The proof of payment together with sport federation membership affiliated with IAAF or IPC (International Paralympic Committee) or the health form must be attached to the entry form. Registration payment fees will be considered valid only if received by deadline. This rule applies to all subsequent deadlines.
2) ATHLETES RESIDENT IN ITALY
Please attach to your registration form (BY E-MAIL OR FAX) your payment receipt and a copy of your FIDAL , FCI (handbikers only) or CIP membership card renewal or equivalent document (that is, a copy of your membership card or a statement signed by the Chairman of one of the Sports’ Association mentioned in the above section “REGISTRATION”). The category of registration fee as per the above section “REGISTRATION FEES” will be based on the payment date shown on the payment receipt. No registration form without biographical details will be accepted. This rule applies to all subsequent deadlines.
REGISTRATIONS DEADLINE

REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION
A confirmation e-mail will be sent to those athletes having paid and sent all necessary documentation. In the e-mail, there will be user-id and password to enter the website’s reserved area, where the Confirmation Letter can be downloaded. The Confirmation Letter must be printed, signed and brought to the Marathon Village in order to collect the bib number.
Confirmation letters will not be sent by regular post.
REGISTRATION FEE TRANSFER AND POSTPONEMENT
Registration fees are not refundable. In case the athlete cannot take part in the Marathon, provided he/she proves this is true, the athlete can choose one of the following options:
a) Transfer his/her registration fee to another athlete. The substitute must pay an additional fee amounting to € 5.00 in order to cover transfer expenses and provide all necessary personal and participation information (membership card and physician statement).
b) Transfer his/her registration fee to the following edition of Maratona di Roma, by paying an additional € 10.00 in order to cover postponement expenses.
BIB NUMBERS
Your bib number will be assigned by the Organization after you have completed your registration procedure and based on your declared personal best time.

Handbike and Wheelchair athletes will start the Marathon some minutes before able-bodied athletes. They will start from Top Start Area.
BIB NUMBER AND RACE PACKET
Participants must personally pick up bib number and race packet at the Marathon Village from March 18th to March 20th 2010.
Upon receiving their bib:
- Athletes having complied with the obligations set by the current Rules and Regulation must provide a filled in validation form, fully-fledged ID, a copy of FIDAL or equivalent association membership card valid for 2010 (athletes resident in Italy); the health form (athletes resident outside Italy). Athletes resident in Italy, choosing the One-year or One-day membership card option will find their membership card in the folder containing their bib.
- Those athletes who have not completed their registration and validation procedure by March, 8th 2010 may receive their bib at the Marathon Village “pending desk”. In order to receive their bib they must provide the missing documents (copy of the FIDAL membership renewal request for 2010 or membership card of equivalent association for athletes resident in Italy; health form for athletes who are not resident in Italy) and fully-fledged ID.
- Disabled athletes may receive their bib and the marathon kit at the dedicated desk.
PACEMAKERS
The Organization will provide a team of qualified race assistants who will run the marathon at a constant pace in order to cut the finish line in:
3:00 hours yellow, 3:15 hours green, 3:30 hours baby blue, 3:45 hours orange, 4:00 hours fucsia, 4:15 hours white, 4:30 hours blue, 4:45 hours red, 5:00 hours violet.
In cooperation with Training Consultant.
LEFT LUGGAGE SERVICE
You may take advantage of the left luggage service. The rules regulating this service will be provided to you after registration.
TIMING CHIP
The timing service will be supplied by a company named “Timing Data Service”. You will find the instructions for the timing chip attached to the bib. The timing chip must be returned upon the finish in Via dei Fori Imperiali.
If you either do not start the marathon or pull out before the finish, either you or your association/sports club must return your timing chip via ordinary mail to the following address: Atielle Roma srl, V.le B.Bardanzellu 65 – 00155 Roma.
In case the timing chip is not returned to Atielle Roma srl by April 30th, 2010, the cost of the chip (€ 20,00) will be charged either on the athlete or on his/her association/sports club
Timing points will be installed every 5 Km of the marathon and half marathon route. Other timing points will be installed in other stretches of the route in order to check the fairness of the ranking procedure.
MEDICAL ASSISTANCE
Medical assistance will be guaranteed all along the racecourse. Also, there will be aid stations every 5km and an emergency First Aid Station just off the finish area. Specialized physical therapists are available for sport massages just beyond the finish area. The Organization will also provide technical assistance to wheelchair and handbike athletes for breakdowns.
Following the mass event and wheelchair and handbike race (on bikes, scooters, etc.), transit along the racecourse is strictly forbidden.
MAXIMUM TIME
Maximum and intermediate time:
- Half marathon (21,097 km) 3:30 (hours)
- 30 km 5:00 (hours)
- 35 km 6:00 (hours)
The maximum time to finish the Marathon is 7:30 (hours)
WITHDRAWAL FROM THE RACE
If you wish to withdraw from the race, make sure you reach one of the refreshing points along the route. Shuttle-buses depart from these refreshment points.
AFTER THE MARATHON
Athletes crossing the finish line will be awarded the official medal. Rankings and participation diplomas will be available for download on the website www.maratonadiroma.it in the days immediately after the race.
Written requests regarding changes and insertions to the rankings will be accepted until 25/3/2010 and must be sent by e-mail to info@tds-live.com. After this date rankings will be considered final.
Personal pictures of the finish will be on sale at www.fotostudio5.net.
INDIVIDUAL PRIZES
On the day of the Marathon, the first three male athletes and the first three female athletes to cut the finish line in the categories General, Italian and Disabled will be awarded a prize. Athletes who, for whatever reason, fail to appear before the official awards ceremony will not receive the prize money (except for obvious and serious medical problems certified by the Marathon’s medical staff).
The amount of the prize was agreed according to FIDAL, IAAF, CIP and IPC regulations. The amount of the prize includes witholding tax and other sums to be deducted from the total amount in accordance with Italian tax law. Professional athletes under contract with Atielle Roma Srl are excluded from the prizes from the 11th to the 30th place.

The Italian Sports Clubs associations gaining the first 20 ranks will be awarded a prize. The clubs will be chosen based on the rankings of individual athletes (counting only the athletes who actually appear in the ranking). At least 30 athletes belonging to a particular Sports Club must appear in the ranking. The amount of the prize includes all taxes imposed by the Italian Tax Law.

*Handbike Category athletes who fail to provide a certification stating their actual eligibility for the above mentioned category will be automatically assigned to cat C. The amount awarded will be the gross sum after taxes, in accordance with Italian fiscal law.
IMAGE RIGHTS
As a registered participant in the XVI edition of the Maratona di Roma, each athlete expressly authorizes the organization, together with its partners, to use fixed or moving images taken of him/her and displayed during the Maratona di Roma.
Authorization is unlimited and may be used the world throughout or included in mediums, such as promotional and/or advertising materials, publications and videos -as current laws permit-, and includes eventual extensions to the foreseen timeframe.
LIABILITY AND PRIVACY
Upon registration to Maratona di Roma the athlete hereby declares that he/she knows and accepts the provisions set by the current Rules and Regulations. Within the meaning of Leg. Decree n°196 dated 30/6/2003, the athlete is bound to read and accept the Privacy Terms published on the Internet website www.maratonadiroma.it and to authorize the Organization to use his/her personal data.
COMPLAINTS
Complaints must be presented by March 22nd 2010, by paying a tax of € 50.00.
MISCELLANEOUS
For any unforeseen matters not mentioned in the existing regulations, please refer to the specific rules and current laws. Race judges may disqualify athletes not having passed through the regular checkpoints set up along the racecourse. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to vary any clause stipulated in the current Rules and Regulations at any time, due to force majeure.
RomaFitwalking
The race is also valid as 3rd edition of RomaFitwalking.
“ROMAFUN” – La Stracittadina (NON COMPETITIVE RACE)
The 4-km non competitive race will start immediately after the start of the competitive Marathon. No limitation or restriction is imposed upon participation. The cost of registration amounts to € 7,00; athletes can register at the Marathon Village or at dedicated registration points.
